The camping tents evolved in the last years so much with so many options, features and innovation that you may end up confused, not knowing what to choose. We believe you; there are many variables to consider before dumping loads of cash on a tent. It depends where and when you will be camping and also if you are an experienced or passionate camper or you go for an adventure here and there.
Below we break down our top picks for the best camping tent brands, designed for every situation. You can go to the comparison table and buyer guide from here.
Best Overall Camping Tent
1. REI Co-op Base Camp 6
- Weight: 20 lbs. 10 oz.
- Durability: 5/5 Stars
- Weather Proof: 5/5 Stars
- Size, Packed: 11 x 24 inches
- Footprint included: Yes
- Easy to install: 4/5 Stars
- Capacity: 6 Person
- Floor area: 110 x 110 inches
- Pros: Spacious, weatherproof and a better wind resistance then REI Kingdom 6.
- Cons: The side vents are sometimes struggling to seal in case of heavy rain.
This tent is one of the best camping tent for families or groups with a sturdier shape and better protection from the elements compared with the Kingdom version from REI. One benefit is the rainfly which covers completely the entire length of the tent and protects you pretty well from the elements like rain, snow and strong winds. It has two doors and vestibules, one bigger in front and one smaller in the back which can be used in different situations, for example, more storage, more ventilation and in case that somebody wants to go out from the tent in the middle of the night, they have that extra exit so it will not bother the others while doing so. It comes in a big bag with a lot of extra room in it which can be carried like a backpack but we recommend to better carry it with your car because is quite big.
The installation of REI Co-op Base Camp 6 is very easy, the poles slide really smooth and it comes with some extra sets of poles that gives a more geodesic and sturdier design and which are really helping shape up the entire tent. You can see the stars really nice on clear nights if you remove the rainfly, it has many ventilation areas and small windows which can be opened and closed from inside or from outside. Pockets are everywhere around the tent. Overall is constructed to hold better in harsh conditions, compared with the other models from REI, which in our opinion, the money are justified.
Our Second Best Favorite Tent For It’s Features
2. REI Co-op Kingdom 6
- Weight: 21 lbs. 6 oz.
- Durability: 5/5 Stars
- Weather Proof: 4/5 Stars
- Size, Packed: 25.2 x 15.75 x 8.6 inches
- Footprint included: Yes
- Easy to install: 4/5 Stars
- Capacity: 6 Person
- Floor area: 120 x 100 inches
- Pros: High quality built with many pockets and vents.
- Cons: The rainfly is not completely covering the entire tent.
Usually this is the tent that’s on the top of the most camping gear sites. We also love this tent but the only reason why REI Co-op Kindgom 6 is not on our first position is mainly the rainfly which in more extreme conditions like strong winds, is not fully covering one of the doors, unlike the REI Co-op Base Camp 6. The tent is large, built with a tunnel shape design, perfect for families or groups. It’s really easy to setup, even if you do it alone, it can be done in about 15 minutes. Once the tent is installed, you can enter through the door while standing up, good for those with back or neck pain. One the rainfly is on you don’t have much visibility outside, which can be a downer for some. Keep in mind that you need to brink a few extra blankets and a good tarp in case is cold outside because you will feel it even with the rainfly on.
The same like Base Camp 6, this tent is build with quality materials, with pockets almost everywhere and two doors. Keep in mind that this tent is not suitable for extreme weather conditions although is advertised as suitable for 3 seasons. Footprint is sold separately and some accessories are not compatible with any model year 2018 or older.
Best Camping Tent For the Budget
3. Coleman Sundome 4 Dome Tent
- Weight: 9.7 lbs
- Durability: 4/5 Stars
- Weather Proof: 3/5 Stars
- Size, Assembled: 108.00 x 84.00 x 59.00 Inches
- Footprint included: Yes
- Easy to install: 4/5 Stars
- Capacity: 4 Person
- Floor area: 9 x 7 ft
- Pros: Affordable price and easy to install.
- Cons: Ventilation and rainfly could be better.
Our best proposal as a budget camping tent is Coleman Sundome 4 Dome Tent. This tent you could set it up alone in under 10 minutes and is great for beginners or first time campers. The rainfly is not covering the entire tent completely but it was reported that even in hard rain, you’ll be pretty safe inside as there are no leaks. The tent is for 4 person but the best would be to be used for 3 person if there are many belongings and air mattresses. The bags for the poles, stakes, and tent are good. They hold the gear very well. We like the storage bag because it’s zippered instead of being made like a stuff sack with a draw string. With the zipper open you can easily fit the stakes, tent and poles back inside.
Coleman Sundome 4 Dome is perfect for light and medium duty use and not for an experienced, heavy duty camper. If the weather is fair or even some light to medium rare, Sundome 4 performs pretty well, so for this price is really hard to beat. One potential minus of this tent is the ventilation, even with the privacy vent added. The windows are quite small and they are covering only the top part of the tent. As for privacy, if the rainfly is on, you’ll have no problems in case you want to change your clothes without being seen. That being said, if you are just going in some occasional trips or one weekend every one-two months at a time, then the Sundome will serve you well.

The quality of the materials is medium but for this price, we can’t comment more. It have a heavy-duty rainfly, offering enough privacy, which holds the tent dry in case of rain and three big windows with mest. The ventilation is good because of those big windows. - Cons: Not for every weather condition.
What we probably like the most from the Kelty Dirt Motel camping tent is the fact that it lets you do stargazing in the clear and warm nights thanks to the creative opening of the rainfly. Really easy to setup thanks to the color coding and really easy to carry because of it’s weight. You can split the bag into two in case you have a buddy to help you with the half of the Divvy dual-stage bag. So those with back problems will appreciate this.
It has two large doors and vestibules and enough space to store your gear and stuff. The floor area is raise to provide extra protection but our staff found that may not be true in every situation, you may want to consider some extra protection for both floor and the rainfly. The floor area of the OT QOMOTOP 4 Person Pop up Tent are 9.5’X7’X50″ which is a an ideal space for 4 person. Thanks to the semi-circular cross section, the space inside is improved even more. It comes in a big circular bag, specific to this type of tents. Because of the big bag, we don’t recommend you to take it out backpacking, you’ll kinda need a car.
The setup is ultra fast, you just throw it and there you are, the tent is up. For packing it back, you’ll need to grab it with your hands and spin it on that typical motion for these type of tents. The ventilation is good, there are windows everywhere which are closing super fast in case the weather goes instantly bad. The two doors also provide enough ventilation when they are open. It has only one door and one vestibule but the door is in a big D-shape, allowing you to put your stuff inside of it to keep them dry. It has two pockets for the lantern on the roof inside for easy lightning, these are called Marmot Lampshade Pockets and are pretty handy. The other corner pockets of the tent have a divider so you can organize your stuff even better.
The door is great as well because of the different setups that you can do with it. You can open it completely and store it in a special pocket beneath or you can open it just on half since there are some special holders for it. This tent was made to support the extreme conditions on the mountains where the winds are strong and there is a lot of snow but is also performing well in camping conditions. The fly is made from canopy and nylon and is weather resistant and lightweight. Actually, the entire tent is lightweight and easy to carry. This Summit Gold/Asphalt Grey version has an interesting look and the zipper pulls are glowing in the dark so that’s pretty neat on the dark. They are also color-coded with poled dual doors and with a dual-entry vestibule is really easy to enter and exit the tent.
The front window is made from 4 stakes Polyurethane which allows it to resist in extreme cold weather, tested by the manufacturer at temperatures of -60°F (-51°C). So if you plan to go on extreme trips on the mountains or just go camping, this tent is definitely a reliable friend. It may be in the summer a little hot but with the isolation that it has we think that should keep most of the heat out. You can also let the vents open and the door, that way enough air will flow in and keep you cool. On the other hand, even when outside is even -4°F you’ll still be very cozy and dry inside as this is the main selling point of the tent. Great tent!
14. Coleman Dome with Screen Room

This tent is perfect for those who hate the heat in the summer while camping. With it’s Dark Room™ technology it blocks 90% of the sunlight and thus offering a 9.5% more cooler environment inside. The screen room is pretty cool though by being completely covered at the bottom to keep the insects out. One of our team slept outside in a warm night and his experience was awesome according to him. In the morning when you wake up you will be be hit by the heat so drastically like in a normal tent. Some of our team members who slept in a normal tent, they woke up 3 hours earlier because of the heat, compared with those who slept in the Coleman Dome with Screen Room tent.
We loved the screen room as well. You can stay there and relax during the day without any worries about insects, water or heat. Even when the weather is extreme, you will stay comfortable inside. The strong frame that it has will protect you against winds up to 35 mph. Coleman did a good job on picking quality materials for this tent; it doesn’t matter if you are in storms or intense heat from the sun and is also easy to pack up when finishing with camping.
15. Crua Outdoors Tri 3 Person Tent

This is a tent for people that are not really friends with camping of hate tents. The insulation on this tent make you feel almost like in a warm cozy cabin. It’s completely isolated from outside against cold, noise and light. If you are a person who is not feeling comfortable camping in the normal way, then this is the right tent for you as no light, condensation, noise and cold will pass through this well made tent. Every material is high quality, the guidelines are pretty reflective, the stakes are big and rigid with a nice big vestibule area which provide more space to this already enormous tent.

Inside could fit comfortable 2 people with raised beds or 3 people if the would use sleeping bags. inside you’ve got 2 big meshed windows that could be closed with a UV protective cover. The fluffy insulation on the walls is unique, no other tent is having such style of insulation. We want to warn you to bring a fire extinguisher inside in case you or one of your friends decide to bring in a heating device, which anyway is not quite needed because you’ll experience enough heat by the insulation.
16. Naturehike Cloud Up Free Standing 2 Person Tent

- Capacity: 2 Person
- Floor area: (82.67+23.6)*51.18*41.33 in
- Pros: Ultralight with high quality materials.
- Cons: The floor is pretty thin.
A nice looking ultralight 2 person tent. We where two person testing this tent and the setup went pretty easy. We liked the double Y design on the poles, this definitely helps on widen up the structure of the tent and makes it more spacious inside. But even with 2 person sleeping in it, sometimes we touched the walls while sleeping because at the foot level, the walls are not so high. On the other side of the tent it was no problem, you could free stand there. Made with 10D Nylon and PU waterproof layer is feeling like a high quality material. In the bag there is also a free footprint included which is kinda heavy compared with the whole weight of the tent but you can let it at home if you really want to experience a very light tent.
The size and weight of the bag makes it so easy to carry on your backpack or attached to anything you’ll carry. This is a good, almost 3 season tent that if you take care of it could last you a long time. We say that you receive a good value for it’s price. Some people recommend spraying it with scotchguard for an extra protection when it rains but we didn’t tried that. As a white tent you should be careful in the nigh when you change you PJ’s because the layers are not stopping everything, so be aware of that.

The middle of the tent height is 72 inches and inside you can fit a queen air mattress or 2-3 twin mattresses. We liked that you can create 3 rooms with the included removable dividers or curtains for extra privacy. Ventilation is not an issue in this tent because of the big D-shape doors and three windows with zipper. We have to say that the tent does a pretty good job if it’s raining but you have to see about condensation, in some cases we saw that happening.
The Pacific Pass Family Camping Tent is made out of 190T polyester and 1500 millimeter fabric resistant to water although the quality of the sewing in some parts is not the best. The 26 x 9 in and 23.32 lbs bag can only be carried with a car and for setting up the tent you’ll probably need a friend or two. Overall this tent is a good family budget big tent that can be taken camping, fishing or when going to an adventure with your friends. So if you don’t want to spend a lot on a big family (or group of friends) tent, then the Pacific Pass Family Camping tent is the right option for you.

When we installed this tent we thought that it would take a lot of effort done by more members of our staff but it turned out that installing is really easy and it can be done even by one person. The Bessport Camping Tent for 10 Person is a spacious, tall tent allowing to put one queen size air mattress. Ideal for families or bigger groups of friends, the tent has a large, covered vestibule room and the door can be opened and hanged. It does a pretty good job agains the rain, thanks to the 68D+190T breathable polyester rainfly while not compromising on ventilation which is really good on this tent.
Other features that our staff liked are the pre-assembled fiberglass frame with clips, power port for electrical cables and the overhead light support. The design and the color of the tent and rainfly are really nice and even the tallest member of our staff could stand up easily inside. Also in the warmer summer days when the sun heats up the tent, you can easily stay inside because is blocking most of the light and heat and the ventilation is good if you open the doors. All in all, we think that this tent is a good value for the money, you’ll rarely see such big tent without any major flaws at that price range.

The updated Kelty Night Owl Backpacking and Camping Tent for 2 person is a popular tent, maybe because the price is not super high for what it offers. It’s a lightweight tent with oversized two doors that helps a lot on ventilation and is equipped with pockets that are helping to provide more illumination inside. If you are a person who like to watch at the stars in the night, you can totally do it with this unique Stargazing Fly system from Kelty.
This version of the Kelty Night Owl Backpacking it’s for 2 person only but inside the floor plan is long and provides enough room for heads and shoulders. In the provided vestibule area which is no too big you can store your stuff and also has enough pockets for doing that. The tarp must be purchased separately. One thing that our staff saw is that the poles are under quite pressure and you must be careful not to break them. It’s easy top setup and tear down and the bag is nice and small to carry hanged up by something like your backpack. Even in rainstorms, the Kelty tents holds up pretty good and when the wind is blowing strong, you will not feel it the same like in other tents. We says is a good bang for the buck.

Purpose and Versatility
Before buying a camping tent you must ask yourself if you are planning to go backpacking, camping of foot, camping with the car, fishing, canoeing, with the family or to have some fun with your friends. You must also ask yourself in which budget you want to stay and how many people will sleep in it. Probably a 4-season tent to camp year-round will not be the best choice for you. Instead maybe a quality 3-season tent that can take a few snowflakes maximum, will do better in your case. The 4-season tent are not so great at breathability and they keep inside moisture after use and they are expensive and heavy. Of course, if you really need it and you are an experienced mountain dude who usually go in the most extreme places, then yeah, you’ll need a 4-season tent, if not, 3-season will do better and better for your pocket.
About the pocket, think about exactly how much you want to spend and keep in mind that 4-season tent are way more expensive. Even a 2-3 person 4-season tent may be over $300. A 4-season shines more when is a strong, cold winters with extreme temperatures.
Camping Tent Types
Camping tents are coming in many shapes, sizes and styles. Below we break down each and one of the camping tent types. The sections below are helping you to find the suitable tent according to your camping style, budget and environment and also about pros and cons for every shape and purpose. Even if you are not sure yet about what type of camper are you, reading from the breakdown below definitely will help you.
High-end Camping Tents
These are usually the most expensive tents with a price range of $400 and up and are suitable for hardcore campers, people who usually go often out with the tent and in different weather condition, even show. These types of tents, most of the time are 4-season tents but not all. The companies whoa re producing these high-end camping tent spent a lot of resources and time on research and development and usually they have many years of experience under their belt. Usually the structure of these tents is more firm and the materials are doing a good job protecting you against strong storms and rough winters. The ventilation is also very good because of the revolutionary designs and materials used. If you are that type of experienced camper, hiker or any kind of expeditioner, over the long run, your investment in a high-end tent will be worth it.
Budget Camping Tents
Not everybody is having time or possibilities to go out camping so often or to go climb mountains and all that stuff. Sometimes, camping for some means just going out at the end of the week to enjoy the nature with their family and friends, take a deep breath of the clean air and go back home on Sunday. If you don’t want or just don’t have the money for a high-end tent, buying a budget camping tent can be the best solution for you. Of course that there may be some compromises on quality, and are not suitable for all kinds of weather but sometimes even with the high end tents you may encounter issues. In that case is definitely easier to replace a whole budget tent then an expensive one. Usually the price for the budget camping tents is in the range of $200, plus or minus. We feel that as the technology advances, you’ll find more and more easier to find a decent quality budget tent if you do your homework well on the research part. We encourage you to read reviews, check if the poles are not usually breaking and check also if the water comes in during storms and if they provide good ventilation. If you stay away from extreme weather, then you’ll be more than fine.
Big Tents for Groups and Events or for Family
We are all social human beings and some of us are having big families or groups of friends who like to go out camping or enjoying the festivals. For this you need a spacious tent like those from this category from about 8 to 15 person. You have to keep in mind that the bags of such tents are large and must be transported with a car. As for the tent capacity, you must be careful about the declared capacity of each tent. Sometime you may be surprised that in a 7 person tent will fit more people then in a tent with a capacity declared of 10 person. Always read the descriptions on how big is actually the floor area. As for those who frequent the festivals or other events, a smaller tent would do better instead of carrying a big bag of a tent. You and your friends can also install a tarp ceiling and place all the smaller tents under it, that way you create a cozy private area just for your group.
Rooftop Tents for Car Camping
Rooftop camping or car camping has become pretty popular in the last years. They where starting to be used by adventure seekers out in the wild who wanted an elevated tent to protect them against wild animals in Australia and other parts with a diverse fauna. Over the years, the rooftop camping tents are used in more and more videos over the internet and the interest in them increased. But if you decide to camp on your car you must know that such a tent can cost from $1000 and up and they are pretty bulky to store at home. The setup is straight forward, you just install it on the roof rack of your car, if you have one, keep in unfolded until you reach your destination and then open it once your are there. They provide more comfort than a usual tent because the mattresses inside them are usually more high quality. Do not forget that you have to use a ladder every time you want to go in and out, so you must be fit for that and use proper lighting in the night to see where you are stepping.
Four Season vs Three Season Tents or lower
The 4-season tents are usually those that are sold at a higher price and sometimes they are included in the high-end, luxury camping tent categories. The 4-season camping tents are made from very good and waterproof materials and they tent to perform the best in worst and coldest weather conditions.
The 3-season tents are those that are good almost all year round, except in the cold winters, especially if you don’t plan on using a heating stove inside. They fit perfectly to most of the campers list and the prices are affordable. That being said, if you are not that guy who goes in the most remote and harsh places, better stick to a 3-season tent.
Ultra Fast Setup Tents
Also known as pop-up tents, but lately new designs appeared that allows you to setup a tent in seconds. Mostly seen at festivals or in camping places to people who don’t want to spend a lot of time installing a tent or they are just not so good at it and they want to cut that stress completely.
Keep in mind though that if you carry such pop-up tent without a car, the round bag is pretty big and you must get creative on how to attach it to you or your backpack. “Is such tent worth it?”, you may ask. The answer is yes, if you decide to buy one with proven history and enough reviews from a reputable company like Ozark Trail or Quechua and lately even more.
Ultra-light Camping Tents
The ultra-light tents are great! How nice would be to own a good tent that is so light and small packed, that you feel like a snail who travels along with it’s house without being bothered. They usually have a price on them if they are made from quality materials and they usually do. Many of the well known ultra-light camping tent manufacturers are offering a good product and if you do your homework good and with the information found on this guide, you’ll land a good light tent on your hands. Tents like Nemo Hornet Elite who have just 1.83 lbs are great if you are that type who likes to travel light.
There are many more other reputable companies in this category though. Our advice is to pick an ultra-light tent that does a very good job on protecting you against the elements and if you don’t want to bring a tarp with you, then be creative on finding the right spot to set it up. It wouldn’t be nice to wake up with bad surprises when the rains starts pouring in.
Rain fly and Mesh Ceiling
Does the tent comes with a rain fly that is completely covering the tent? If you think that you may cam in a rainy weather, you may want to read reviews about the tent that you want to buy from people who encountered rain on their trip. The mesh ceiling and the rain fly could be separated?
This is great for those who want to do stargazing or sleep under the start in the warm summer nights. You must also look for tent designs that are not letting the mesh ceiling to touch the rainfly in case of condensation or rain because all that humidity will go on you in the mornings.
Floor Area Size and Quality
The actual usable size can vary from tent to tent compared with the official size because of the angle of the walls. Some tent have the walls at a really small angle and this makes it a little difficult for the people who sleep next to it. Some bathtub floor designs are not so good against strong winds in case you decide to let some of your stuff on the floor close the the exterior. Of course, not all bathtub floor designs have issues, this depends on the design and how the floor is stacked out. A tent like Big Agnes Copper would do a good job against condensation while having a secure floor but it all come to a price and is heavier.
Peak Height
The peak height is the height that is between the floor and the highest point of the tent. There are tent where you can only stay laid down, some that allows you at one point to do free standing and some that lets you stay on your own foot without even touching with the head. It all depends on how tall are you, or the others and how much are you willing to lay low every time when you go in and out of the tent. Of course, if you have back problems or if you plan to camp longer in your tent, you must use one with a decent height. Crawling like this for many days or weeks, you’ll feel it after a while. If you really want to save some weight, you can use a tent where you can put hiking poles instead of normal poles but not too many are fans of that type of tents.
How many people can fit comfortably
You should keep in mind that the capacities of the tents are usually measured in how many sleeping bags can fit inside and not by how many people plus their belongings like backpacks and mats can fit inside. A group of four can fit pretty good in a 6 person tent and can store decently all their stuff but this is not always the case, that’s why you should read the reviews about this topic on the tent you’re looking to buy.
Number of Doors
One door or two doors? Well better would be to choose a tent with two doors so you don’t need to climb over your pals to go in the night to leak. Two doors are also good for ventilation if you open both door and fold them up. You must pay attention to the zippers though. Even the more expensive tent models, sometime have zippers that get stuck or are starting to have wholes in the sewing.
Storage Space Provided or Built In
As we said earlier, the declared capacity of a tent may not match with reality. That’s why, after counting all the people, the space left will be for storing the belongings. This space can be inside the tent on the floor, in the pockets, on the vestibule space, under the rain fly and so on.
Weather Resistance
If you really want a waterproof tent then you should look carefully at the hydrostatic head with a thickness of minimum 3000 mm. On the market many tents are having a thickness below that, from 1500 to 2000 mm. If you want to be really sure and have the best waterproofness and protection, then you can pick a 5000 mm one but they will be more expensive and heavy. If you are on a budget you can reproof it on your own. Make sure that after you installed the tent to always look for ideas on how to cover the tent and how to dig for the water channels around it.
Ventilation
Ventilation is really important in a tent, no matter that is in the summer or in the winter or during a storm. A good ventialtion in a tent should keep the air fresh inside, exchange the existing warm and humid air from inside with fresh one from outside. If you have problems with condensation then probably you have a bad nylon tent which maybe is not well ventilated. In the summer we encountered a few times some really hot waves of heat in the morning. Those who didn’t had ventilation felt very hot inside and the air was barely breathable. You can look also for tent with 2 doors. Having 2 doors folded will create a draft and fill the inside space of the tent with fresh air fast.
Durability
Many are thinking that this one is straight forward, the more expensive is the camping tent, the more it last. Well this is not always true. The best thing that you can do is to do your own research on the tent you decided to buy and read from other reviews from people who used that tent for a few years. The problem with many tents nowadays is that most of them are relatively new on the market and you need to bigger time span and many experiences with the tent to actually give a note on how durable it is. Tent durability is also how you maintain it. Every time after you pack it up you must clean it, make sure that is now wet and when you’re at home you must keep in a dry, ventilated space and make sure that from time to time you open it or even install it quick in the garden to check for mold. A good tent that is well maintained, could last you 20 years. Nowadays of course that the warranty and the life expectancy of the new tents is way lower.
Set up and Take Down Speed
Lately, on the market appeared quick erect tents that are actually of good quality and with double walls which are protecting you better against bad weather. In this category we have the “normal” tents and the pop-up tents or the quick erect tents. Only you know what would be the purpose of your trip and camping style in order to choose which one is better for you. Are you planning to go in a place and stay for many days or are you just making a nap and then continue to a new location? Or you will go to a festival or somewhere where you don’t spend so much time in it? These are all factors that help you choose between an instant tent or a normal one.
Material / Build Quality
When choosing a camping tent you’ll see that there are so many types and names of materials that you just don’t know what to pick. From polyester to nylon or cotton and poly-cotton and many more. Each material has it’s own upsides and downsides. It all depends of the purpose of your camping trip, if you want something lighter for shorter periods of time or if you plan to stay longer and have something more protective. We think that cotton is one of the best material for a tent. The advantages of cotton is that it insulates very good and you won’t feel too hot or too cold or sudden fluctuations in temperature. Cotton is also breathable and also absorb the water and because of this you won’t have big problems with condensation, which in many other cases this is an issue. Cotton and poly cotton tents have a downside because they are more bulky and heavy than the man-made materials.
Pole Structure
In order to have a good experience in a camping tent, you’ll have to choose a tent that are having an intelligent pole design. The dome shaped tents tend to have the pole design in an X-shape and because of this you can only stand up in the middle of the tent. Other tents like Eureka Space and or Gazelle T4 are having the poles in such way that create more space inside and are allowing you to stand up anywhere in the tent. Some tents are coming with color coded poles for a easier installation.
Weight and Bag Size
Of course, weight is a big factor in choosing a good camping tent for you in case you don’t go camping with a car. There is a wide variety of weights and size for the bags. From ultralight tents that are only one pound to thirty pound tents for bigger, family tents. If you want to feel more free while camping or backpacking then you want to keep the tent weight to about 4 lbs but if this is not a matter for you and you go with the car up until to the camping ground and you have a big family then you can ignore this. But even then, would be nice to see for a more compact tent and bag because you don’t want to transport half of your carriage only the tent.
Footprints Needed and Provided
There aren’t too many tents that also include a footprint inside the package. Most of that time, the footprint should be bought separately and a price for a high-end footprint can go pretty high. The footprint you usually put in under your tent to protect the tent against punctures, scratches and moisture. If you are on a budget you can use a tarp under the tent but here’s a tip, never have a bigger footprint than the actual size of the ten. This will let the water in more faster then if you where not using any footprint. They are mainly made of Painter’s Tarp Sheet or Tyvek or those high tech ones made from different combinations. Do not forget to weight your footprint before going camping or backpacking, sometimes the weight of the footprint is also the same or more than the weight of the tent.
The Rest of Your Camping Kit
The most important item of your camping kit should firstly include clothes such as exchanging socks, T-shirts, underwear with some comfortable, warm pants for sleeping. Of course that is also important to have equipment for protection and setting up the campsite like sleeping bags, pads, a mini axe, lamps, some cords and maybe duck tape. This is just to make sure that you at least you came decently prepared and not to heavy loaded. There are also extras that you can bring like games, chairs, power bank, sacks for the garbage and kitchen utensils.
Warranties and repairs
The best is to maintain your tent and camping gear as good as possible then it will last you a long time. Anyway, accidents still happen and if you are in a situation like this and have a new tent, then maybe is worth it to have a look if you still have the warranty. Especially if you bought a high-end tent. Some of the companies, just some, are offering warranty or repair services. This think will be obviously harder to do if you bought the tent from the internet from somewhere far away but if you bought the tent from a local dealer then you’re lucky. Companies like Kelty, Big Agnes, Nemo, REI, The North Face or Eureka are offering such warranties. We consider that a reputable brand should offer lifetime warranty. Is nice to see that you can still buy something that lasts you for life.
