Devil’s Lake State Park
Devil’s Lake State Park provides three amazing camping spots so that you can camp right in the park and experience everything it has to offer, including the fantastic views from 500 feet above a 360-acre lake.
There are 423 regular camping spots within the three standard campgrounds, and nine group campgrounds are available for hire to accommodate 240 campers.
Within the lake, you can fish, boat, kayak, swim, or take your canoe out to explore the huge lake and surrounding areas. There are also 29 miles of well-marked hiking trails that let you pick easy or advanced routes to see even more of this beautiful state park.
You’ll also find hunting and trapping opportunities in the open areas of the park, rock climbing is possible, and if you prefer to bike some of the trails instead of hiking, you can do that as well to get further and see more of the park.

Copper Falls State Park
Copper Falls State Park is considered a must-see Wisconsin location for outdoor enthusiasts, with three fantastic waterfalls to hike to and explore as part of the 17 miles of hiking trails available within the park.
There are two amazing camping spots easily accessible in Copper Falls State Park, a group camping spot and one backcountry camping area that you’ll need to hike into by Copper Falls itself.
You’ll also have access to a 300-meter sandy beach at Loon Lake within the park for swimming, boating, kayaking, and even trying to fish off the pier so you can catch and then cook your own dinner.

Wyalusing State Park
Wyalusing State Park is one of the oldest parks in Wisconsin and has amazing camping spots that sit 500 feet above the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers so that views out over the rivers and across the park are superb.
There are two standard campgrounds that you can book, along with 2 group campsites, one outdoor and one indoor, for longer stays or during winter activities.
The park offers all of the standard things you’d expect, including 14 miles of hiking trails, two mountain bike trails, and even a 6-mile canoe trail to explore the rivers. You can also get fish from the pier for panfish, bass, pike, walleye, and a number of other fish so that you can be self-sufficient with your own meals.
You’ll also find that the area of the Mississippi River in the park is a significant bird migratory path, so it offers excellent year-round birdwatching but exception opportunities during the spring migration where you can watch a huge range of birds passing by from the bluffs in the park.

Peninsula State Park
Peninsula State Park in Wisconsin provides a huge range of activities while you’re camping or just visiting; whatever your outdoor adventure needs are, you’re likely to find them in this park.
There are 468 amazing camping spots across five campgrounds in Peninsula State Park and three group campsites. The amenities are much more advanced than at other Wisconsin state parks, including hot showers, flush toilets, boat launches, fire rings, and many other facilities to make your stay more comfortable.
You’ve all the standard activities available within the park, including 20 miles of hiking trails that range in difficulty and multiple biking trails. You can go swimming, fishing, kayaking, and even go boating to the nearby Island.
If you’re an avid golfer, you’ll also find an 18-hole golf course within the park that takes you on a great day of challenging holes and spectacular views.

Big Bay State Park
Big Bay State Park is located on Madeline Island in Lake Superior and requires a short ferry ride from the mainland, or you can access it via your own boat. It’s an excellent opportunity to get out into the Lake Superior to a more secluded located than many of the other Wisconsin state parks offer.
There are 21 amazing camping spots in Big Bay, with seven camping spots requiring a 100-400 meter walk in, so make sure you can hike everything you need into one of these spots or select one closure to the parking area.
There is a 1.5-mile beach to relax on or launch yourself for a kayak, canoe or just swim in Lake Superior. You can also take one go hiking along the seven miles of hiking trails throughout Madeline Island.
If you’re keen to go fishing, you’ll find pike in the lagoon, or you’ll have a good chance to catch trout in Lake Superior.

Kohler-Andrae State Park
Kohler-Andrea State Park is a more natural state park within Wisconsin, providing fewer amenities and man-made activities, but features much more in the way of wildlife and outdoor adventure for a more natural camping experience.
There are 137 amazing camping spots in 1 campground for tents or RVs with 52 that have electrical hookups. Showers, flush toilets, and even laundry facilities are available in the campground during the warmer months, but many are closed during winter.
The park has fantastic sand dunes to explore, beautiful white sand beaches to relax on, and the water is amazing to swim in or take your kayak or canoe out on Lake Michigan.
Multiple hiking trails will take you through the sand dunes, forest, or along the Lake Michigan shoreline, where you’ll have an opportunity to learn about the local area, and you’ll have a chance to see the more than 150 local and migratory bird species that visit or call the area home.
The Sanderling Nature Center is an excellent first stop when you arrive at the campground. It provides educational exhibits for the kids, information on the local area, and even guided tours are available if you want a longer experience with a knowledgeable local guide.

Black River State Forest
Black River State Forest is more geared towards fun ATV activities, excellent hunting, and fishing opportunities, and has a range of lakes and river access to get out on your boat or kayak.
You’ll find three amazing camping spots within the forest; one provides a more modern experience with showers, electrical hookups, flush toilets, and much more to keep you comfortable. Two other campgrounds provide a more rustic camping experience, so be prepared with your camping equipment.
One of the fantastic camping options within the forest is the opportunity to primitive camp almost anywhere you can find a good spot to set up. If you plan to hunt or canoe, there are designated areas for these types of camping.
